Echoes of a Cold War

Hello fellas, today´s blog is about time travel, in my case, time travel to the past, exactly 60 years back. First of all, I have to start explaining myself about this, and the reasons are related to the title of this blog; The Cold War and my wanting for being a War Correspondant (back to Blog 3).

Well, it´s simple, I´m fond of history, specifically if it is related to wars. The Cold War was one of the most important conflict in world history, mainly because every week humankind was close enough to a global nuclear threat that would ended in our extinction. Besides of that important context, I like some things of this era.

During the Cold War, the U.S. developed a lot of new military technology in an effort to beat the USSR in everything (the war itself, the space race, etc.). Aviation was a fundamental part of military improvment, speccially if we are talking about spying th enemy and a great example of this is The Lockheed SR-71 as well known as Blakbird, the first stealth aircraft. The Blackbird was created by Lockheed Martin company for the CIA in 1964 and was used for spy the soviet territory to recolect highly detailed information. This aircraft had no weapon to attack or protect itself, the only "defense" was its speed; Mach 3 (3,540 km/h).

During the Cold War, music was a big deal. Singers and bands began to use the conflict for the creation of their songs, like Creedence Clearwater Revival created Fortunate Son because Tom Fogerty, the guitarrist of the band was enlisted to go to Vietnam and in the battlefield he realized about injustice between young men who enlisted too, seeing that were politicians or rich people son´s that weren´t in the war because of their privilage.

War it´s not everything, life was different too. The clothes, the food, the entertainment media was cool (in my opinion). I would like to stay there because I find that this was an odd but interesting era, and for working as an War Correspondant I believe that it could be phenomenal.

  1. I had never thought about how interesting it would be to travel back in time to the cold war, I guess the first thing that comes to mind is the fear of being in constant danger. But with the reasons you've given, it makes the picture a lot better.

  2. The Cold War is a historical period that I personally still consider very important, the consequences of which continue to this day. And as you mention, it was a period of great technological advance that revolutionized the entire world.

  3. It was a time when many interesting things happened that will always be remembered, so it would be a genuine luxury to be able to travel back in time. I would also like to go.
